Public Consultation on Records held for Archives & Historical Research Purposes

The Data Protection Commissioner is considering making Regulations under Section 1 (3C) of the Data Protection Acts, laying down safeguards to protect personal data contained in records that are retained for archival or historical purposes.

A draft of the Regulations and a background paper is available below.

The Commissioner invites submissions on the draft Regulations to be received no later than Friday, 26 September 2008. All such submissions received will be published on the Commissioner’s website.
