Irish Data Protection legislation provides exemptions from its provisions where the processing of personal data is carried out solely for journalistic purposes or the purpose of artistic or literary expression. However this exemption only applies when it is necessary to reconcile the right to privacy with freedom of expression and that publication would be in the public interest.
